Global Movement of Moderates interested in coop with the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions
The Malaysian counterpart outlined the main tasks of the GMM launched in 2010 by Dato' Sri Najib Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia, in order to promote a moderate agenda in Southeast Asia and globally, to contribute to civil society development, to combat various radical concepts. As was noted, in March 2015 Kuala Lumpur will host the 2nd international conference of moderates, Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported. In his turn, Ambassador Daniyar Sarekenov informed the Malaysian side on the President Nursultan Nazarbayev's initiative to convene the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. The Kazakh diplomat communicated that on June 10-11, 2015 the 5th jubilee Congress titled "Dialogue of Religious Leaders and Politicians For Peace and Development" will be held in Astana. It was underlined that both Congress and GMM share the same basic messages and priorities - promotion of global dialogue among religions and cultures, and development of the culture of tolerance and mutual respect as opposed to the ideology of hatred and extremism. The Ambassador of Kazakhstan also accentuated the evident similarities between Kazakhstan and Malaysia in terms of ethnic and religious diversity, and highlighted the activities of such a unique socio-political institute as the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan. The two sides agreed to establish regular contacts in the "GMM - Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions", and "GMM - Assembly of People of Kazakhstan" frameworks, including by mutual participation in various events and maintaining the inter-institutional ties.
