Germany to mark 20th anniversary of Berlin Wall fall
Fabricated elections, emigration and mass demonstrations of 1989 led to collapse of the state apparatus of the German Democratic Republic. After the President's retirement on Oct 18 and fall of the Berlin Wall on Nov 9, 1989 a new rapid process of unification started. On May 18, 1990 FRG and GDR signed a treaty on establishment of a single economic, currency and social union, although many experts cautioned against negative consequences for suffering economy of GDR.
Negotiations on joining GDR the Federative Republic started July 6 in Berlin. On October 3, 1990 Berliners and other cities celebrated the Day of German Unity.
On the occasion of the significant date the Embassy of Germany will hold an exposition "From peaceful revolution to unity of Germany" dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The exposition will be held in Astana, Pavlodar, Ust Kamenogorsk, Kokshetau, Petropavlovsk and Kostanay.
