GEORGIA: June 7 Day of Mourning for soldiers killed in Afghanistan

TBILISI. June 7. KAZINFORM - Mikhail Saakashvili, the Georgian President, announced June 7th a Day of mourning for six killed Georgian soldiers in Afghanistan.

In this regard all state flags above the public institutions have been flown at half-mast and all the entertainment events have been canceled.

Six Georgian soldiers were killed and nine have been wounded in a suicide attempt in the Georgian military base in Helmand province in Afghanistan. A suicide bomber detonated a truck packed with explosives.

Georgia has lost 28 people during its participation within the NATO mission in Afghanistan.

Irakli Alasania, the Georgian Minister of Defense, left for Afghanistan to study the situation on the spot.
