Gennady Golovkin shares his vision of the future of boxing with IOC President Thomas Bach

President of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan Gennady Golovkin participated in the General Assembly of Panam Sports, which is currently underway in Asunción, Paraguay, Kazinform News Agency has learnt from the NOC press service.

During the event, NOC President Gennady Golovkin met with the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach.

Thomas Bach congratulated Gennady Golovkin on his recent appointment as Chairman of the World Boxing Olympic Commission, highly appreciating his contribution to the development of boxing globally. He also expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.

Gennady Golovkin presented the IOC President with a detailed work plan of the commission and outlined the tasks planned for the near future. Both sides emphasized the importance of keeping boxing in the Olympic program, including at the upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Golovkin also met with the newly elected President of Panam Sports and the NOC of Chile, Neven Ilic.

Gennady Golovkin thanked Neven Ilic for providing a platform for the work of the Olympic Commission during the Panam Sports General Assembly. Neven Ilic, in turn, expressed full support and readiness for joint work.

During the Panam Sports General Assembly, the World Boxing Olympic Commission will host a series of meetings with the National Olympic Committees of South and North America.

It was previously reported that Gennady Golovkin had been appointed Chairman of the new World Boxing Olympic Commission.

The former world boxing champion Gennady Golovkin was elected as the President of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan this February, replacing former President Timur Kulibayev.

In May 2024, Gennady Golovkin was appointed a member of the International Olympic Committee’s Olympism 365 Commission.
