Gennady Golovkin comments on IOC’s decision to grant provisional recognition to World Boxing
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on February 26 a decision to grant provisional recognition to World Boxing as the international sports federation, the IOC said in a statement on Wednesday.

Provisional IOC recognition is a major achievement and demonstrates that our sport in on the right track. This decision brings us one step closer toward our main goal, which is to retain boxing on the program for the Olympic Games, said Gennady Golovkin, Chair of the Olympic Commission by World Boxing.
Golovkin said, ‘I’m grateful that thanks to continuous efforts of all people supporting World Boxing, we did achieve such a result’.
Founding International Federation run on principles of integrity and impartiality is our common mission for the future generation of athletes and future champions. A lot is yet to be done to achieve all goals set, so we won't stop there, said Golovkin.
It’s worth noting that the Olympic Commission by World Boxing was founded in September 2024 for close cooperation with the IOC and to put boxing back on the Olympic program.
