GE Transportation to build diesel plant in Kazakhstan

GE has signed an agreement to form a joint venture with TransMashDiesel and JSC National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, to produce 400 Evolution Series diesel engines a year, ErieTVNews reports.

Those engines will be used in rail, marine and stationary power industries in Russia, Kazakhstan and other countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States region.

Lorenzo Simonelli, President of GE Transportation said, "We are excited about the prospect of expanding our global manufacturing footprint and supplying our leading Evolution Series diesel engines to customers in Russia, Kazakhstan and other countries."

The agreement is good news for GE's Grove City plant, which will provide diesel engine kits to the new facility in Kazakhstan.

There's already a plant in Kazakhstan's capital, Astana, that can assemble 100 Evolution Series locomotives a year.
