France interested in importing horse meat from Kazakhstan

Kazakh Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov held a meeting with French ambassador to Kazakhstan Sylvain Guiaugué to discuss strengthening of cooperation between the countries in the agro-industrial complex, Kazinform News Agency reports.

During the meeting, the Kazakh minister highlighted the need to increase the mutual trade.

In 8 months of this year, the agricultural trade turnover between Kazakhstan and France reached 67 million US dollars, with the Kazakhstani export increasing by almost 6gold thanks to increase in rapeseed exports.

The sides also discussed the possibility of introducing changes to the veterinary requirements for the export of small cattle as well as the joint project of Synetics and Asyl-Tulik companies to improve Kazakhstani cattle breeds with the use of artificial insemination and French breed semen.

Besides, the meeting’s participants discussed the plans to expand the capacity of Danonе company and localize the seed production of Limagrain company in Kazakhstan.

The Danonе plant produces over 50 types of dairy products with the overall volume of 18 thousand tons, using high technologies. 40% of the plant’s total production is exported to the Central Asian counties, the Caucasus and Mongolia. The milk used for yoghurt production is supplied by Kazakhstani farmers only. The plant plans to unveil an additional production line worth 730 million tenge in 2025.

To note, in early October France hosted the Livestock Summit, during which Kaiyp Ata and Pegase BVS signed an agreement of cooperation on supplies of horse meet, as farms express interest in horse meet exports to France.

Kazakh Minister Saparov expressed confidence that the issued raised will contribute to the further development of cooperation between the countries in the field of agriculture.

It’s worth noting that Kazakhstan exports lamb, pork and horse meat to the EAEU, CIS countries as well as Iran, China, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Japan

In 2022, nine more Kazakhstani meat processing facilities were added to the register of enterprises eligible for exporting horse meat to Japan.
