Former Kyrgyz Parliament Speaker suspected of corruption, detained

BISHKEK. November 21. KAZINFORM - The State National Security Committee former Parliament Speaker Ahmatbek Keldibekov has been detained by the Kyrgyz Prosecutor General's Office and put into a detention facility.
There have been opened criminal cases under articles on corruption and abuse of office regarding Deputy of Jogorku Kengesh (Parliament) Ahmatbek Keldibekov.
According to the information of the press office, the criminal cases have been opened over corruption amid groundless allocation and spending of the Social Foundation funds in 2005.
"Keldibekov was detained and placed in the detention facility of the State National Security Service on Wednesday, November 20," the Prosecutor General's Office said.
47-year-old Ahmatbek Keldibekov is one of the leaders of "Ata-Jurt" party which has the largest number of seats in the Parliament. Currently "Ata-Jurt" faction is in the opposition wing of the Parliament.
