Foreign residents in S. Korea surpass one million

SEOUL, August 6. KAZINFORM -- The number of foreigners living in South Korea totaled over 1 million as of May 2009, up 24 percent from a year earlier, according to a national census released Wednesday, according to Yonhap news agency.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Safety said there were 1,106,884 foreigners staying in the country to account for 2.2 percent of South Korea's population. The increase is mostly from including long-term foreign residents who stay in the country for over 90 days, it said, Kazinform cites Yonhap.
