Foreign embassies donate books to international library in Astana
The idea behind this started up after South African Ambassador to Kazakhstan Shirish Soni kindly donated 450 books from his personal library. The initiative was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. The library stock was updated with books donated by the embassies of India, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Greece and Bulgaria. "I believe that books kindly donated by foreign diplomatic missions will enrich students' knowledge about life, culture and history in other countries," Russian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Mikhail Bocharnikov said at the opening ceremony. In addition, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Erlan Idrissov delivered a speech at the unveiling ceremony dedicated to the foreign policy of Kazakhstan and Kazakhstan's role in multilateral organizations.
