First session of working group on State Language Development Program held in Almaty

ATY. January 21. KAZINFORM /Aigul Turysbekova/ The first session of the working group on development of the State Language Development Program for 2011-2020 chaired by Kazakh Minister of Culture and Information Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed has taken place today in Almaty.

The main purpose is the implementation of a new stage in the language policy.

"The peculiarity of the given program is that it will have national status and will be signed by the President of Kazakhstan. The state language, as one of the principles of independence of the country and intellectual wealth of Kazakh people, is under special attention of the leadership of our country. The new program will have strategic objectives and tasks for the state language policy", M. Kul-Mukhammed noted.

Taking into account the significance of the Program, under the instruction of the Head of the State representatives of all public organizations of the country were involved into the working group. They are: famous linguist scientists, representatives of intelligentsia, political parties and non-governmental organizations - totally over 50 people.

According to the Minister, 880 Kazakh schools have been opened over 18 years of the country's independence. Besides, during these years hundreds of new newspapers in Kazakh appeared in the country. The circulation of the main national newspaper "Yegemen Kazakhstan" reached 160,000 issues. Another positive example - is the circulation of the magazine for children "Baldyrgan" which reached 50,000 issues.
