First meeting of IFSAS and international donor organizations held in Almaty

ALMATY. May 16. KAZINFORM /Duren Zhailin/ First meeting of members of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFSAS) with representatives of international donor organizations was held yesterday in Almaty with participation of specialists of the UN Economic Commission for Europe.
The meeting was held in order to implement the joint statement of the Heads of States ? the IFSAS founders ? Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan ? as of April 28, 2009. In accordance with the statement, the IFSAS Executive Committee together with the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination, the IFSAS Interstate Sustainable Development Commission ad national experts and donors were charged to work out the Action Program on assistance to the countries of the Aral Sea Basin for 2011-2015 for further consideration and approval by the state founders of the IFSAS.
According to Chairman of the IFSAS Executive Committee Sagit Ibatullin, one of the main purposes is institutional changes, legislative improvement, development of the regional legislation on the bases of existing conventions, gradual rapprochement of positions of countries. It will allow to create methodic, legal, organizational base for development of the Program.
