Explosion rocks UN building in Nigerian capital, at least 10 killed

ABUJA. August 26. KAZINFORM At least 10 people were killed on Friday morning when a bomb explosion rocked the United Nations (UN) building in Nigeria's capital Abuja, hospital sources told Xinhua.

According to Xinhua, many staff and visitors to the complex also suffered various degrees of injuries.

A competent source at the National Hospital mortuary department told Xinhua that eight dead bodies have been deposited, including six male and two female.

Meanwhile, sources at the Garki Hospital told Xinhua that two dead bodies were brought in.

Xinhua's reporters at the scene said a complete wing of the UN building was destroyed by the blast.

The bomb which was allegedly planted in a vehicle was driven by a lone occupant through the exit gate of the UN House.

A private uniformed guard on duty was killed while a UN security staff at the gate was wounded.

The vehicle rammed into the reception area of the UN House, destroyed furniture and electronic gadgets before exploding in the middle of the huge building. Two receptionists in the building were killed instantly, a security source told Xinhua.
