Ex-defense minister Akhmetov's house arrest extended again

KARAGANDA. KAZINFORM - A Karaganda court has extended the house arrest of former defense minister of Kazakhstan Serik Akhmetov by another month - until May 18, 2015, Kazinform correspondent reports from Karaganda.
A lot of paperwork and big number of involvants in the criminal case are blamed for the extension of the arrest. It was first imposed on Akhmetov on November 18, 2014.
The ex-Defense Minister of Kazakhstan is standing trial on charges of embezzling extremely large sums of money, corruption and more. The Kazakh Civil Service Affairs and Anticorruption Agency is investigating a number of corruption-related crimes, involving former administration of Karaganda region and Karaganda city, including B. Abdishev, M. Smagulov, A. Esse, G. Rakhimzhanov and others. Their arrests have been extended as well. Recall that Mr. Akhmetov was governor of Karaganda region since November 2009 till January 2012 and is believed to have hand in those crimes.
