Eurasian Economic Union Treaty hailed as key event of the year

SAINT PETERSBURG. KAZINFORM The signing of the treaty on establishing the Eurasian Economic Union in Astana on 29 May will be the key event of the year for the Customs Union and Single Economic Space member states.

The statement was made by President of Russia Vladimir Putin during the plenary session of the 18th Saint Petersburg international economic forum on 23 May, BelTA reports. The forum's theme is building up trust in the age of changes.

"The treaty is to come into force on 1 January 2015. A common market of three countries with the total population of over 170 million people, free flow of capital, goods, services, and workforce will be created. Opportunities to do business, implement joint investment and manufacturing projects, to pursue a coordinated macroeconomic policy, to coordinate actions on foreign markets will be considerably expanded," stressed the Russian head of state.
