EU project on development and implementation of trade policies opens workshop on trade negotiation skills
This workshop will be delivered by Mr. Collins-Williams, a former senior negotiator for Canada. Officials from the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Center for Trade Policy Development and the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan are among the participants, the press service of the EU Delegation to Kazakhstan reports.
The programme includes lectures, case studies and negotiations simulations in the goods and services areas. This activity will prepare participants for the various negotiation processes, including WTO accession and negotiation of preferential trade agreements.
During his visit to Astana, Mr. Collins-Williams is expected to have bilateral meetings with senior Kazakh negotiators in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and in the Center for Trade Policy Development. These meetings will address issues concerning Kazakhstan's ongoing WTO accession negotiations, as well as negotiations for regional trade agreements.
The Project "Development and Implementation of Trade Policies and Regulations" (DITP) is funded by the EU in the amount of 1,787,000 Euros, aiming to support the further integration of Kazakhstan into the world economy and to increase country's capacity in the process of wider economic, regulatory, legal, and administrative reform necessary for further trade liberalization in order to promote economic development. Partners of this Project include the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade; Centre for Trade Policy Development; Ministry of Agriculture; Ministry of Heath; Committee of Technical Regulation and Metrology, including the NCA, the Kazakhstan Institute of Standardization and Certification and the Kazakhstan Institute of Metrology; and the Agency for Competition Protection.
