EU project for providing bio-safety and bio-security training opens a new training season in Almaty

ALMATY. September 20. KAZINFORM The EU project for providing bio-safety and bio-security training opens a new training season in 2011-2012 academic year for experts from Central Asia and Mongolia. The project started in 2010 and targeted to improve bio-safety and bio-security in the region by raising the scientific and practical skills of the personnel working at the supervising relevant laboratories in the region, the press service of the EU Delegation to Kazakhstan reports.

At the opening of the new training season in Almaty Ambassador Norbert Jousten, Head of the EU Delegation said: "It is highly important for the safety of the region to cooperate and tackle together regional challenges especially for preventing epidemiological danger and uncontrolled proliferation of biological material. The Delegation continuously and firmly supports the project and appreciates local authorities for active participation and significant contribution to successful implementation of the project".

The project is implemented by Kazakh Scientific Centre for Quarantine and Zoonotic Diseases in the framework of the EU Instrument for Stability. Instrument of Stability is a unique political and financial instrument which is targeted to support long-term stability in the region. Overall budget of the project "Providing Bio-safety and bio-security training" is 6.8 mln Euro. Over three years 226 experts from Central Asia and Mongolia will receive qualification training. The project will provide high quality bio-safety equipment for the needs of KSCQZD. Also as one of the expected result of the project a dormitory building of the Kazakh Scientific Centre for Quarantine and Zoonotic Diseases will be repaired.
