Emergency Ministry: About 40 kids died in fires starting this year
"For 10 months of the year in Kazakhstan have been registered 10,980 fires, property damage from which amounted to more than KZT 3 billion. Fires killed 329 people, including 38 children, 452 people were injured, with burns and poisoning of varying severity", he informed.
Fire service was able to save from 1,237 people and property in the amount of KZT 50 billion.
"The main causes of fires were carelessness of people - 36 % of all cases, incorrect installation and maintenance of electrical equipment - 23 %, as well as a violation of fire safety rules when constructing and operating furnaces - 9 %," he added.
The Committee's analysis showed that the largest number of fires are still happening in the housing sector - it is 66% of the total. The Ministry also stressed the fact that in such emergency situations deaths are mostly among people who are intoxicated, as well as among children left unattended.
Rescuers strongly recommend the population of the country to be vigilant and follow the rules of fire safety.
