EIB studies financing opportunities in Kazakhstan

BRUSSELS. February 23. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ The European Investment Bank is studying an opportunity to finance energy projects in Kazakhstan. President of the Bank Philippe Mayshtadt said it in an interview to Kazakhstan's correspondents.

As the Head of the EIB noted, the Bank and Kazakhstan signed a framework agreement that was the first step towards further activity of the Bank in Kazakhstan. "Today our goal is to implement this agreement," P. Mayshtadt said.

Speaking of the EIB financing prospects in Kazakhstan, P. Mayshtadt noted that he worked together with the Kazakh authorities on selecting projects to be co-financed by the European Investment Bank. "As the first step the EIB considers provision of a framework loan to the amount of EUR 300 mln (within the Memo of Understanding between "Samruk Kazyna" National Fund, "Kazakhstan Development Bank", JSC and the EIB). We also consider an opportunity of financing of other projects mostly in the energy sphere," The President of the Bank said.

Besides, the Head of the Bank highly appraised the development of Kazakhstan's banking system noting that the global financial economic crisis showed the system's stability compared to other countries. He also expressed confidence in further fruitful cooperation with our country.
