Economy is a weak link for SCO - political analyst Syroyezhkin
"The latest documents adopted at the SCO summit have already laid and shaped the principles on which it is supposed to build a security architecture in the region. Among them - the unification of efforts of all countries in the fight against modern challenges, non-targeting of the SCO member states' activities against any states or organizations, rejection of bloc-based and ideological division, respect for cultural and civilizational diversity of the modern world," the expert reminded.
Syroyezhkin pointed out several problems. According to him, there is still no agreement on what exactly is the area of responsibility of the SCO. "Whether it is Central Asia or the broad interpretation that includes the Asia-Pacific region? To what extent is the SCO involved in the process of forming a new security architecture of its members, excluding China and Russia," he emphasized. He drew attention to the problem of the expansion of SCO, building up its relations with the United States and NATO, which also deal with issues of regional security, particularly in Afghanistan. For the present no country is willing to replace the U.S. in this issue," the political analyst stressed.
He is wondering: what is the SCO's interaction with the security structures within the CIS and CSTO, the relationship between Russia and China in the area of responsibility of the SCO.
