EBRD Board of Governors opening session started in Astana

ASTANA. May 20. KAZINFORM As earlier reported, the capital city of Kazakhstan, Astana, is hosting the Annual Meeting and Business Forum of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development these days.

The opening session of the Board of Governors with the participation of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has just started. Welcoming the session participants the Head of State thanked the EBRD President Thomas Mirow and the Board of Governors for the decision to hold the Annual Meeting in Astana.

"It is highly symbolic that the 20th anniversary of the world's most respected and trusted financial institution - the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development - coincides with the 20th jubilee of our independence", the President noted.

"Over twenty years of independence we have created an absolutely new political system based on democratic principles. The social and economic development of Kazakhstan is recognized throughout the world. Modern Kazakhstan has become a rapidly developing country to date", N. Nazarbayev added and expressed his appreciation to the EBRD for its contribution to the development of Kazakhstan economy.
