Dushanbe to host CIS summit on 3 September

MINSK. August 27. KAZINFORM A meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council will take place in Dushanbe on 3 September, BelTA learnt from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

According to BelTA, the meeting participants will consider 11 draft documents regulating CIS relations in different areas. The most important of them are draft decisions on the statement on the CIS heads of state regarding the 20th anniversary of the CIS foundation and an analysis report, CIS Accomplishments over the 20 Years and Future Goals. The documents summarize the achievements the Commonwealth has made in the economic and humanitarian areas, security and other priority areas of cooperation.

The meeting will also focus on a number of issues related to further development of cooperation in security, the press service said. In particular, the CIS heads of state will discuss efforts to counteract illegal migration, and secure air defense. Close attention will be paid to discussing the immortalization of the courage and heroism the CIS member nations demonstrated during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

The CIS heads of state also plan to discuss the status of implementation of the plan of basic measures to implement the CIS Development Concept.

The heads of state are expected to adopt a decision to pass the CIS chairmanship to Turkmenistan. In 2012 Turkmenistan will hold the chairmanship at the Council of Heads of State, Council of Heads of Government, Council of Foreign Ministers, the Economic Council, the CIS Council of Permanent Representatives, and the Commission on Economic Affairs at the CIS Economic Council. It is assumed that the Republic of Tajikistan will hold CIS co-chairmanship with Uzbekistan.

It is expected that before the meeting the heads of state will attend a concert of Tajikistan artists dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the CIS.
