The program works with schoolchildren to discourage both drug use and violence, and has been implemented in about 75% of American schools and in 43 countries.

The U.S. Embassy's Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), through its Drug Demand Reduction program, has worked with the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Education to bring the DARE program to Kazakhstan, the first CIS country to adopt it. Seven police officers and one teacher from the United States are visiting Astana to conduct a workshop for approximately 30 Kazakhstani school inspectors from the Ministry of Interior from June 13 to 24. These officers will then teach the DARE curriculum to students in their assigned schools; Kazinform refers to the U.S. Embassy in Astana.

After the practical exercises for Kazakhstani school inspectors a graduation ceremony will be held at the Kazakhstan Law and Humanities University on June 24. Ambassador Ordway and Minister of Interior Kalmukhanbet Kassymov will deliver remarks and present certificates to those who have completed the course.
