Decision on negotiating development of new EU-Kazakhstan partnership and coop agrt to be taken till July 1, 2010 - Miguel Ángel Moratinos

BRUSSELS. April 29. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ Decision on holding negotiations on making a new agreement on partnership and cooperation between the European Union and Kazakhstan will be adopted till July 1, 2010. Chairman of the European Union-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Spain Miguel Ángel Moratinos has said it following the EU-Central Asia Ministerial Conference in Brussels on Wednesday, April 28.

According to him, at present Spain as the EU chairman holds talks with all EU member states in order to obtain a mandate to negotiate with Kazakhstan on conclusion of a new agreement on partnership and cooperation. "I can say that such decision will be adopted till the end of our chairmanship in the EU, i.e. till July 1, 2010", Miguel Ángel Moratinos noted.
The first Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Kazakhstan and the EU was signed by President N.Nazarbayev and Chairman of the EU Council Alain Juppé in January, 1995. It entered into force on July 1, 1999. This agreement gave powerful impulse to development of the European vector in the Kazakh foreign policy.
