Damage caused by Russian Proton-M explosion exceeds KZT 13 bln

ASTANA. November 22. KAZINFORM - The Ministry of Environment and Water of the Republic of Kazakhstan has calculated the economic assessment of damage from environmental pollution caused by the accident with the carrier rocket "Proton -M" on July 2 this year, taken place in Baikonur complex.

According to the Ministry the calculation has been carried out in accordance with "Rules of the economic assessment of the damage caused by environmental pollution", approved by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on 27 June 2007 under number 535. Thus, the amount of damage to the environment has made more than KZT 13 billion (13,690,747,305).

This calculation has been sent to the Federal Space Agency of the Russian Federation (Roscosmos) through diplomatic channels to address and redress the wrongs done to the environment.

At the meeting of the working committee the representatives of Roscosmos expressed willingness to discuss the issues of compensation to the Kazakh side of the economic damage caused to the environment.

For soil remediation the experts of the Kazakh Space Agency used technology based on hydrogen peroxide. At present, the activities on detoxification of contaminated areas by the direct method of restoring the environment have been completed. Heptyl level in the soil does not exceed the maximum allowable concentration.
