Customs Union and Common Economic Space should not prevent Kazakhstan’s trade with EU – Nazarbayev

This statement has been made by Nursultan Nazarbayev after the meeting with Jose Manuel Barroso, the President of European Commission, in Akorda.
"Our negotiations today have been effective. Accelerated adoption of a new Kazakhstan and EU agreement on the expanded partnership and cooperation is of high importance. There are unresolved issues such as EU support of Kazakhstan to enter WTO, the possibility for Kazakhstani aircraft fly to the EU states and also visa queries. We have made agreements in these areas including humanitarian issues in the field of training", said the Kazakh President.
N. Nazarbayev and Jose Manuel Barroso also discussed the issues of regional security and stability, the CU and CES.
Nazarbayev said that Kazakhstan's membership in the CU should not be a barrier for trading with other countries including the EU and expressed confidence that the meeting will be a new milestone for the further Kazakhstan rapprochement with EU.
The Head of the country stressed that the EU is a major economic and political partner of Kazakhstan. The volume of investment from the European Union to Kazakhstan amounted to USD 80 billion and trade volume reached USD 53 billion. There was signed a strategic partnership agreement with France and Spain and a direct agreement for the supply of resources in exchange for technology with Germany.
