CSTO foreign ministers adopt joint statements on Syria, Iran

KAZINFORM The foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) adopted joint statements on the situation in Syria and Iran at the working meeting held as part of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, BelTA learnt from CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov.

The ministers shared opinions on further cooperation of the CSTO member states on key issues of the global and regional policy, emphasized the need to continue the work on foreign political coordination including the relevant tasks to the permanent representatives of the CSTO member states in international organizations.

They also discussed the issues included into the agenda of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, which are of priority significance for the CSTO member states: Nuclear Weapons Non-Proliferation Treaty, the situation in Afghanistan as well as plans to expand cooperation between the CSTO and the UN. The foreign ministers approved a draft resolution on cooperation between the CSTO Secretariat and the UN Secretariat.

The spokesman added that partaking in the meeting was CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha. The CSTO foreign ministers agreed to continue the practice of informal working meetings to discuss the most important issues and coordinate positions. The next informal meeting will take place ahead of the OSCE Foreign Ministers Council in Dublin (6-7 December 2012).
