Crucial to join efforts for countering security threats - NATO representative

ALMATY. June 24. KAZINFORM. /Aigul Turysbekova/ Among the priority directions of the scientific research activity are energy and cyber security as well as safety at sea, detection of self-made explosive devices at crowded places. Jean-François Bureau, NATO Assistant Secretary General, Chairman of the Science for Peace and Security Committee has made it public within the Information Day devoted to the NATO program "Science for Peace and Security" at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty today.
The main purpose of the NATO's scientific committee is to contribute in security, stability and solidarity in the international community. The work in the sphere of detection of self-made explosive devices and protection against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear substances is one of the projects of the committee.
According to Mr. Bureau, due to "Virtual Silk Road" program the vast majority of people have got free internet access. "We should develop potential of this program", he noted. Among the most important problems in Central Asia Mr. Bureau also named the environmental protection - struggle against waste and pollution. "It is necessary to join efforts of all countries of the region to solve this problem", he said.
