According to the Vice Premier, the geographic position and the existing and prospective infrastructure define the role of Kazakhstan as a transport and transit bridge connecting Europe and Asia. ?It is our strategic goal to develop the country?s transport and communication system and integration it into the international transport networks?, S. Akhmetov said. According to him, it is necessary to coordinate the transport policy conducted by the Eurasian countries. ?It means integration of all transportation modes ? railways, highways, pipelines, aviation, river and sea transport ? into a single transport system?, Mr. Akhmetov emphasized. The Vice Prime Minister reminded that in 2006 the President of Kazakhstan approved the Transport Strategy of Kazakhstan till 2015 that is logically connected with the territorial development of the state and Eurasian continent as a whole. ?The Strategy envisages construction of modern main lines, which allow to realize transcontinental transit with north-south and west-east directions?, he resumed.
