Cooperation with CAREC is of great importance for our country - U.S. Assistant Secretary of State

ALMATY. February 1. KAZINFORM /Aigul Turysbekova/ U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Dr. Kerri-Ann Jones has visited the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) in Almaty today.

"The U.S. attaches great importance to cooperation with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia. We realize the importance and role of the CAREC in improvement of the ecological situation", Dr. Kerri-Ann Jones said. In her opinion, she has already had several meetings in Astana and Almaty. "We have held consultations on further development of the U.S.- Kazakhstan cooperation in science and technologies", she added.

The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State highlighted long-term partnership established by both countries after Kazakhstan gained its independence. "Cooperation in biotechnologies, renewable energy, healthcare and ecology are of great interest for us", she stressed.

In turn, Vice Executive Director of the CAREC Henry Weiss noted that this meeting would allow getting familiarized with the problem of the Aral Sea rehabilitation and promoting better understanding of the regional challenges in ecology and healthcare spheres.
