Construction of passenger terminals at Almaty, Shymkent, and Kyzylorda airports to be finished in 2024

First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar held a meeting with the central and local executives for discussing the development of the airports’ activity, Kazinform Agency reports via the government.

In 2022, the airports of Kazakhstan served 21.1 million passengers that is 16% more compared to 2021 (18.2 million people). Positive dynamics is observed this year too.

The meeting also discussed the issues of infrastructure development and investment attraction. New passenger terminals are under construction now at Almaty, Shymkent and Kyzylorda airports at the expense of foreign investments. The works are scheduled to be completed next year.

The ministry of transport announced the factors impeding the development of the country’s transit potential such as jet fuel shortage, wear and tear of specialized vehicles and equipment at the airports, tariff policy, as well as customs and tax procedures at the airports.

A number of tasks was set at the end of the meeting.

In eight months of 2023, the number of passengers served at the airports increased by 28% and reached 17 million people, while in 2022 their number was 13.3 million only.
