CIS to strengthen food security
The session was the first one held under the presidency of Tajikistan which took over the chairmanship in all CIS supreme bodies on 10 December 2010, Kazinform refers to BelTA.
The 2011 year has been announced the Year of Food Security in the CIS. According to Kozidavlat Koimdodov, plenipotentiary representative of the Republic of Tajikistan in the CIS charter and other bodies, Dushanbe will attach the primary importance to the execution of the major provisions of the integrated action plan on improving food security. The sides are set to draw up agreements on different segments of the food market, develop measures regulating the issues of cooperation in the area of seed breeding.
The official stressed that Tajikistan would focus on pragmatic integration processes. "We will aim all the efforts at the implementation of CIS conceptual and strategic development goals," he said.
Besides, great attention will be directed to cooperation in energy, transport, social and labor relations, migration, ecology and environmental protection, humanitarian sectors.
According to the press service, the participants of the session held a minute of silence for the victims of a suicide bomb attack in Moscow's Domodedovo airport. Five issues were high on the agenda of the session. The participants of the session looked into the activity of the Council of the Heads of the CIS State News Agencies founded in November 1995 to coordinate cooperation in the information area. The council organizes and takes an active part in media projects on the CIS territory. One of the most significance projects implemented in 2010 was the development of a modern site ANIA (www.ania-news.info).
Permanent representatives of the CIS member states outlined an action plan for 2011 and discussed proposals into a draft agenda of the Council of Foreign Ministers session due in Kyiv on 8 April.
