CIS Interparliamentary Assembly to hold traditional spring activities in S. Petersburg

SAINT PETERSBURG. April 6. KAZINFORM /Yelena Myagkova/ Traditional spring activities of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly will kick off in the Tauride Palace of Saint Petersburg today. The activities include sessions of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and two international conferences with the participation of parliamentarians from the EU and Commonwealth.

As the press service of the CIS IPA informs, the Council of the CIS IPA is expected to revise a plan of law-making activity for 2010 and to establish two working groups for development of model laws on freedom of conscience, religions and religious organizations as well as on prohibition of propaganda of fascism and Nazi symbolism. The members of the CIS IPA plan to address the CIS parliamentarians and governments with a statement on the 150th anniversary of A. P. Chekhov, to sum up the results of observation of the elections in Ukraine and Tajikistan and get familiarized with the course of preparation for the Nevsky Ecological Congress and an International Parliamentary Conference devoted to Kazakhstan's OSCE chairmanship.

On Wednesday there will be held an Interparliamentary conference dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

As Secretary General of the Council of the CIS IPA Mikhail Krotov explained the conference will end with adoption of a declaration which will be sent to international organizations including the UN. Besides, a conference entitled Future of European Security will take place within the CIS IPA spring activities. The conference is organized together with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. As M. Krotov noted around 80 parliamentarians from Western countries plan to take part in these events.
