CIS improving cooperation in healthcare

MINSK. June 15. KAZINFORM The CIS member states are working hard to improve cooperation to combat new threats and recent outbreaks in the world, counselor for the humanitarian cooperation department of the CIS Executive Committee Georgy Narushevich told media on 14 June. He is taking part in a meeting of the task group in Minsk to discuss the healthcare legal framework, BelTA has learnt.

According to the expert, six agreements in heath between the CIS countries require corrections and changes. "Social-economic and political conditions have changed in the countries that have signed these documents. There are new threats, outbreaks of various diseases in other countries, and we must respond to them consistently," said Georgy Narushevich.

According to BelTA, in particular, the working group will consider an agreement on provision of the population with drugs, vaccines and other immunobiological drugs, medical products and medical equipment. The document was signed in 1993, and now needs to be adjusted. Economic conditions and legislation of the States have significantly changed. Certain provisions of the document run contrary to the provisions of the Customs Union.

The working group will also discuss an agreement on cooperation in sanitary protection of the CIS countries, signed in 2001. The document is expected to be brought into line with international health regulations which came into force in 2007. The working group is set to examine the agreement on hygienic assessment of potentially dangerous products imported into the Commonwealth concluded in 2004, the agreement on medical assistance to citizens of the CIS and the document on cooperation in addressing HIV-related problems.
