CIS adopts physical education and sport development strategy

ASHGABAT.  May 31. KAZINFORM The CIS Council of the Heads of Government adopted a physical education and sport development strategy at a session in Ashgabat on 30 May, BelTA learnt.

The document states that physical education and sport are essential components in the sustainable and effective social and economic development of the CIS member states. The strategy is aimed at encouraging people to do sport and creating a brand new model of sport development to provide mass engagement in sports activities, BelTA reports.

The Heads of Government confirmed the work plan for 2012-2013 to foster the CIS international youth cooperation up to 2020. The document intends to provide equal, fair and quality education, introduce new educational forms, including the establishment of network educational institutions and the use of distance learning. The document also stipulates the support for socially vulnerable young people including the handicapped, orphans, children from large and dysfunctional families. There are plans to step up cooperation between the public youth associations of the CIS member states.
