Chogori K2 ascent devoted to 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence

TALDYKORGAN. June 17. KAZINFORM /Sandugash Duissenova/ An international expedition to the Chogori K2 summit has started in Almaty, the oblast tourism, sport and physical culture department said.
This expedition is organized with the support of Almaty oblast governor Ansar Musakhanov and is devoted to 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence.
This ascent will accomplish the unique sports programme "Kazakhstanis - on the highest mountain peaks of the world". Over the past 10 years the best Kazakh alpinists conquered 13 out of 14 world eight- thousanders.
K2 is the second-highest mountain on Earth with a peak elevation of 8,611 m.
