Chile to showcase replica of its mine rescue capsule at Expo 2010

MOSCOW. October 18. KAZINFORM At the World Expo in Shanghai, Chile will showcase the replica of its rescue capsule, designed to rescue 33 miners who spend more than two months trapped underground, the Nacion newspaper reported, Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.

The capsule is one of three identical Phoenix capsules built for the rescue effort. The capsule actually used in the mission, Phoenix 2, will be installed for public display near the country's presidential palace, while one of the other two will be sent to Shanghai.
"Today we would send one of the capsules to Shanghai, despite the fact that it would arrive only several days before the exhibition's closure," the republic's vice president Rodrigo Hinzpeter said.
On August 5, 700,000 tons of rock collapsed in the San Jose gold and copper mine, trapping 33 miners more than 600 meters underground. All miners were successfully brought to surface last week, Kazinform cites RIa Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru
