Central Asia media situation discussed in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE. May 26. KAZINFORM /Kenzhebolat Zholdybai/ The media situation in Central Asia was discussed during the second day of the XII Central Asian Media Conference in Dushanbe on access to information and new technologies.

A wide array of topics regarding media development in Central Asian countries was considered. The participants took interest in the Kazakhstan's activities on legal provision of the balance between the freedom of speech and responsibility.

Besides, the attendees expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan, as OSCE Chair, for the measures on stabilization of the situation in Kyrgyzstan. According to Marat Tokoyev, head of the Bishkek-based Public Association of Journalists, a wise decision of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev to take Bakiyev away from Kyrgyzstan allowed to avert a civil war in this country.
