Cape Verde’s Vozinha to meet mother at World Cup after visa approval

Vozinha quickly gained worldwide attention at the World Cup after making crucial saves in a 0-0 draw against Spain, one of the tournament’s favorites, which was expected to easily defeat the underestimated Cape Verde team.

The mother of Josimar “Vozinha” Dias, Ana Candida Evora, could not travel to see her son because of the cost of the visa bond required to enter the US.

After the match, Vozinha said that his mother was unable to obtain a visa to travel to the US to watch him play.

“Star Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha and his mother will be reunited in Miami in time for the match on Sunday,” Hakeem Jeffries, the minority leader of the US House of Representatives, shared on social media.

Jeffries stated that he had urged Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, to permit Vozinha’s mother to enter the United States.

He disclosed that all fees had been waived and arrangements were underway to transport her to Cape Verde’s upcoming match in Miami.

“I thank Secretary Rubio, US State Department officials, the government of Cabo Verde and FIFA for working together to make this possible,” the Democrat said.

Cape Verde will face Uruguay in their second Group H match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 21.

Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that Cape Verde goalkeeper Josimar “Vozinha” Dias had gained more than 6 million Instagram followers after his performance against Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
