Canada's Jonathan Cheechoo signs with HC Dinamo Minsk
The player made a good showing at the Ontario Hockey League (the 1998-99 champion) and the AHL (as part of the Cleveland Barons in 2001-2002). He made his debut in the National Hockey League with San-Jose Sharks in the 2002-2003 season.
Jonathan Cheechoo had his best year in the NHL during the 2005-06 season leading the NHL with 56 goals and winning the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy, awarded annually to the leading goal scorer in the National Hockey League.
Jonathan Cheechoo spent six seasons with the San-Jose Sharks. He changed the club in the 2009-2010 season and played for the Ottawa Senators. There he scored 5+9 points in 61 games and was sent to the AHL. His total NHL record is 501 games (170+135).
In the 2013-14 KHL regular season Jonathan Cheechoo, as part of Medvescak Zagreb, scored 19 goals and 19 assists in 54 games. The KHL debutant's great performance earned him an invitation to the League's All Star Game, BelTA reports.
On 5 May the Belarusian leading ice hockey club also announced a two-year contract with Canadian forwards Matt Ellison and Paul Szczechura, and Slovakian defenseman Ivan Svarny. Dinamo Minsk resigned Belarusian forward Artur Gavrus to a one-year extension contract.
Earlier the club extended contracts of forwards Alexander Kitarov (for two years) and Alexei Kalyuzhny (two years), and goaltender Dmitry Milchakov (one year). It is also known that Lubomir Pokovic will coach the team in the 2014-15 KHL season.
