Cameraman Yerkinbek Ptyraliyev becomes first Kazakhstani to vote for Oscar winners
Cameraman Yerkinbek Ptyraliyev became the first Kazakhstani national to join the ranks of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - the organization that votes for Oscar winners, Kazinform News Agency reports.

According to the Kazakh culture and information ministry, Kazakhstan’s film Dala kaskyry ('Steppe Wolf') was widely praised at the Fantasia Film Festival in Canada. Berik Aitzhanov and Anna Starchenko were called best actors for their lead roles in the film.
The film crew also made history at the festival, as cameraman Yerkinbek Ptyraliyev became the first Kazakhstani national to join the ranks of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - the organization that votes for Oscar winners.
The film Dala kaskyry ('Steppe Wolf') directed by Adilkhan Yerzhanov earlier won a French Film Critics Association prize at the Reims Polar 2024 Film Festival.
The film follows a story of a woman named Tamara, who is in a desperate search for her lost son in a small town engulfed in turmoil. The woman seeks help from a detective with a shady reputation, leading to even more unexpected events.
