Brazilian president's approval rating hits 71 pct

RIO DE JANEIRO. October 1. KAZINFORM Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff's approval rating reached 71 percent in an opinion poll released Friday, four percentage points more than the previous survey in July; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

According to the latest survey, conducted by consulting firm Ibope, 51 percent of the respondents rated Rousseff's nine-month-old government as good or very good, up from 48 percent in July.

Meanwhile, most of the Brazilians held a positive attitude toward the future, with 56 percent of the respondents believing that in the remaining years of Rousseff's presidency, the governance will be good or very good.

Rousseff enjoyed her strongest support from citizens aged 50 and above, among whom 55 percent approved of the current administration's performance, while 47 percent of the Brazilians aged 25 to 29 held the same opinion.

In addition, the government has a higher approval rating among the poor. Among citizens with a per capita household income less than the minimum wage, 54 percent rated the government as good, while among richer citizens, the ratio was 44 percent.

The Ibope survey was carried out between Sept. 16 and 20 and covered 2,002 people nationwide.
