Birth rate down in Kazakhstan

During a board meeting of the Healthcare Ministry, Minister Akmaral Alnazarova announced that as of early 2025, Kazakhstan's population has reached 20.3 million, recording a 1.3% increase, Kazinform News Agency reports.

However, she also noted a 6.2% decline in the birth rate.

“It’s important to note that life expectancy at birth has increased by 9.7 years over the past two decades, now reaching 75.1 years. However, there remains a significant gender gap in life expectancy, with women living an average of 8 years longer than men. In 2023, life expectancy for men was 71 years, while for women, it was 79.1 years. For comparison, in the OECD countries, this gap is typically 5-6 years,” said the Minister of Healthcare.

As reported earlier, newborns birth rates have increased in western Kazakhstan.
