Belt ‘not for beating children’ goes on sale in Siberia

NOVOSIBIRSK. October 19. KAZINFORM A belt containing a message urging parents not to beat their children has gone on sale in Barnaul, the capital of south Siberia's Altai Territory; Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
The idea for the belt - decorated with the words "a belt is for your trousers - a talk is for your child" - came from a group of journalists and was supported by a local children's charity.
The label on the garment also contains advice on ways to avoid "reaching for the belt," a statement by local officials said on Tuesday.
"This information on humanitarian methods of raising children will be particularly useful to parents," the statement continued.
The belt comes in a number of models and colors, inducing versions for both men and women.
Some 2,000 children are killed every year in Russia by adults, many of whom die at the hands of their parents or relatives.
