Belarus to focus on inter-parliamentary cooperation in post-Soviet space in 2013

KAZINFORM Development of inter-parliamentary cooperation in the post-Soviet space will be at the focus of the international activity of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Belarus in 2013, Chairman of the Permanent Commission for International Affairs Nikolai Samoseiko told media on 30 January.

At the meeting of the Council of the House of Representatives on 30 January Nikolai Samoseiko presented a plan of international parliamentary cooperation for 2013. "An emphasis in the plan is made on mutual relations with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The issue of forming the Eurasian Economic Union will be high on the agenda as well. Thus, the international cooperation of the House of Representatives will be focused on these priority goals," the MP told media ahead of the meeting, BelTA reported.

The House of Representatives will continue building up its inter-parliamentary cooperation based on Belarus' multipronged foreign policy, Nikolai Samoseiko stressed.

Belarus MPs have so far formed 50 working groups and 13 delegations to develop cooperation with parliamentary organizations. Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said in his opening remarks that they are looking into the issue of including the representatives of the groups into the intergovernmental commissions for trade and economic cooperation. Lawmaking schedule for the spring session was also considered at the meeting.
