Belarus in favor of enhancing CSTO potential

The stance was followed by vigorous development efforts during the presidency of Belarus over the CSTO. Belarus' stance gave an essential boost to the promotion of collective interaction in several important areas, including foreign policy coordination, peacemaking efforts, equipment of the CSTO rapid response forces, and response to emergencies. The opinion was voiced by CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordiuzha as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko, the press service of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia told BelTA.

At the meeting the CSTO Secretary General was handed a note about the appointment of Igor Petrishenko as the envoy plenipotentiary of Belarus in charge of CSTO affairs, BelTA reports.

The sides shared views about the status and prospects of promoting cooperation in enhancing the collective security within the CSTO framework. They touched upon individual matters relating to the arrangement of regular sessions of CSTO charter bodies and the main events in the area of military and political cooperation.

Igor Petrishenko underlined the special role and importance of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in ensuring the national security of Belarus. He pointed out the importance of the organization for keeping peace and stability in its responsibility area. He confirmed the interest of the Belarusian side in developing and enhancing the practical component in the CSTO operation and the ability to timely and effectively respond to various crisis situations.
