Barbaric poachers detained with 1000 saiga horns

KARAGANDA. KAZINFORM - During the raid Karaganda region police have detained poachers with more than 1,000 horns of saiga antelope, the press service of the regional Internal Affairs Department reports.

According to the statement, February 26 officers of the regional environmental police have stopped Mitsubishi car on Kyzylorda-Pavlodar road. During the inspection police officers have found saiga horns in the amount of 1021 pieces inside the car. A 26-year driver and a 38-year-old passenger, both citizens of Karaganda, have been detained. Necessary expertise to be carried out. Pre-investigation check is underway. NOTE: The saiga is a critically endangered antelope which originally inhabited a vast area of the Eurasian steppe zone. Kazakhstan has introduced a moratorium on hunting saigas which will last until 2020.
