B. Zheksembin: SCO - one of key integration organizations in Eurasia

TASHKENT. February 8. KAZINFORM /Kurmat Samarkhan/ The Shanghai Cooperation Organization gradually turns into the factor of the SCO member states' development. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan Boribay Zheksembin has said it at a briefing today.

"Kazakhstan has been heading the SCO since June 12, 2010. Our country was honored to chair the Organization in its jubilee year. The Summit of the SCO Heads of State dedicated to its 10th anniversary will be held in Astana on June 15, 2011", the Ambassador informed.

"Over 10 years of its existence the SCO has turned into one of the key integration organizations in Eurasia which mission is ensuring sustainable economic development, strengthening regional security and stability and countering modern challenges and threats", B. Zheksembin noted.

As the Ambassador added, the situation in Afghanistan had been in the spotlight of the Organization. "Kazakhstan considers that Afghanistan should be more actively involved in integration processes in the SCO space. Efficient implementation of the Action Plan of the SCO and Afghanistan on fighting terrorism, illegal trafficking in drugs and organized crime is of great importance", he stressed.

"Kazakhstan intends to use its role in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia as well as its upcoming chairmanship in the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers for expanding interaction of these largest regional forums with the SCO", B. Zheksembin said.
