Austrian company interested in implementing hydropower projects in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyz Ambassador to Austria Tolendy Makeyev met with Vice President of the Austrian hydropower company Andritz Hydro Alexander Schwab this week, Kabar reports.

According to the diplomatic mission, during the meeting, the parties discussed issues of further effective implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic and Andritz Hydro during the official visit of President Sadyr Zhaparov to Austria on November 24-25, 2024.

Makeyev informed Schwab about promising investment projects in the energy sector of the Kyrgyz Republic. In particular, he noted the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 construction project, which reflects broad economic, environmental and social benefits and prospects for both Kyrgyzstan and the entire Central Asian region.

Schwab confirmed that Andritz Hydro has the necessary resources and is interested in implementing hydropower projects in Kyrgyzstan.

In this regard, the parties agreed to continue joint efforts to develop a roadmap for the practical implementation of specific hydropower projects in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Andritz Hydro is a well-known Austrian company, one of the world's leading suppliers of electromechanical equipment (generators and turbines) and technological services for hydropower plants. The company has 180 years of experience and has installed 33,000 turbines with a total capacity of more than 489 gigawatts.

Earlier, it was reported that AME International GmbH, the Austrian company in the field of healthcare, is planning to construct a hospital in Kyrgyzstan.
