Australia joins oil embargo against Iran

BAKU. January 24. KAZINFORM Australia will follow the EU lead in banning oil imports from Iran, the country's foreign minister Kevin Rudd said on Tuesday; Kazinform refers to Trend.

"On the question of Iran, let me be absolutely clear (regarding) the actions taken in Brussels yesterday on sanctions by the European Union - we in Australia will undertake precisely the same parallel action for Australia," he told reporters during a visit to London.
The European Union banned imports of oil from Iran on Monday and agreed to freeze the assets of Iran's central bank, joining the United States in a new round of measures.
The latest sanctions by the European Union will be fully enforced by July 1. The sanctions on Iran oil is fraught with risks - of rising energy prices and global financial instability; Kazinform cites Trend.
